i used an actual email address in both cases rather than a [tag] parameter
What changed?

the "From" field changed. even when i put in my email straight without the use of a generated tag, it WORKED when it was enclosed in [brackets]
Omitting [brackets] in the "FROM" field causes the mail (2) portion to fail.

the strange thing is that the first email works. this failure ONLY APPLIES to Mail (2). Thus, I deduct that the Mail (2) portion of the plugin's source code to be faulty/buggy.
