You are the most successful WordPress plugin author of all time. (Excluding plugins by teams of people and Automatic.)

  • Your plugin is downloaded more than HUNDRED MILLION times.
  • It is active on more than FIVE MILLION websites.
  • You did all that all by yourself. There is no team, no employees…

You are no doubt very clever.

How is it then that you messed up v5.1 that spectacularly?

Why did you made a change that requires new keys in order for reCAPTCHA to work without announcing the change as “coming soon”? On the contrary you even hidden what you are doing on the release notes!

“Updates the reCAPTCHA module to support reCAPTCHA v3.”

What part of the above message tells us that reCAPTCHA v2 support is removed? You may read my earlier post on drawing similarities of your actions to a sleeper cell’s. (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/irresponsible-authors-damage-the-wp-community/ ) Fantasy or not you made them happy, VERY happy.

I bet they are still laughing to the bank…while your reputation is in tatters!

I am an almost 70 year old engineer. You must be much younger. However, even I know how to maintain software and it ain’t the way you do it. If you read it this far maybe you can learn something if you read to the end.

Beta test: Have as many people as you can reach to test and report back.
Announce: Tell your users what changes are coming. Allow them time to understand the consequences and get ready for the change.
Allow legacy: Always allow the old to live with the old for a limited time.

You failed on all three steps. Hence we no longer respect you as we did before. Earn the respect back. You deserve it.
